I have read the Universal Code in full and to be honest as far as the cart racing is conserned it seems outdated. Some of the wording also bothers me and raises the spector of World Domination and the need to keep the lid on Pandora's box. Once the lids open the rule book will expand and change beyond recognition.
Also it is stated "The Universal Code is the first independent riders/technical rulebook to be considered as a global standard for the safe organisation, management and development of competitive gravity sports events."
Who considers it as such and who are the people behind the name?

I tried to read the Universal Code but lost interest after the first twenty or so pages. 55 pages for goodness sake. IMO its probably a good idea for those that want it but I got interested in gravity racing because there didnt seem to be that many rules. I m all for the bare minimum of rules to keep the organisers and competitors of any given event happy. Certainly organisers of bigger events may want to adopt a code and one overall code makes life easier but I m a big boy now and if some-one wants to organise a thrash in a forest (or whateva) I m up for that. On the other hand if an organiser wants lots of safety rules I am happy to comply if I want to compete (after all I have a choice not to enter if I dont want to) I m with Peas and Barley on the point that rules will grow and grow once they start. Sorry I wandered off topic there for a bit. What no beer......you ll not get me driving anything I ve built sober!!!!

"Hi all. On a positive note I would like to say that I like the rules of racing and rider etiquette section of the universal code. I do not agree with the definitions of bike classification though and can not see the UK scene adopting this at all. UK riders have for a long time been using various bike frames and hand built frames other than bmx under the catagory of stock bikes with fairing size being the class changer. I feel that the sport is not big enough over here for 4 classes and do not see the advantage of a 4 tier system. For instance, I ride what you would call stock bikes (bmx framed) against what you would class as custom bikes and custom faired bikes. Over the last 3 years there has been no real advantage for the riders using custom frames over my stock frames and wanted to know your classification reasons. These rules would not change my bike classification but would change a lot of other riders. Fairing classification has worked well over here for a while now. What are your reasons for having a 4 tier system based on the bikes frame origin ? Dan Verity " This is what I asked them, amongst other things. Still waiting for a responce
